2000yr-Old Secret Organization Makes Threats Against Greek Navy Supplier

A rather disturbing video is recently uploaded on YouTube, showing a young man in military style clothing placing some kind of package outside the building of a supplier to the Greek Navy. The message is clear – it’s a warning. The video is produced by someone called “Crypteia,” commonly known as a the more than 2000 years old secret military organization.

“You have made many tragic mistakes and will now begin to pay for each one of them. That was our warning.”

It’s probably some young punks playing copycats, but the mere fact that videos who tries to inspire people to do violent actions are appearing more and more frequently is another disturbing sign. This one plays on emotional strings connected to several thousand years of proud Greek history, to the eternal conflict between Muslims and western religions and to pure nationalism.

Wikipedia says: “Krypteia or crypteia (Greek: κρυπτεία / krupteía, from κρυπτός / kruptós, “hidden, secret things”) was a tradition involving young Spartans, part of the agoge (classical Greek ἀγωγή) regime of Spartan education.”

Its goal and nature are still a matter of discussion among historians.

Young Spartan men who had completed their training at the agoge with such success that they were marked out as potential future leaders would be given the opportunity to test their skills and prove themselves worthy of the Spartan military tradition through participation in the Krypteia.

There’s not much written on Krypteia. Although there’s been some rumors, the organizations existence is commonly seen as a part of the agent history.

Henri Jeanmaire, seems to be the last official record of the Krypteia.

In his book – « La cryptie lacédémonienne », Revue des études grecques 26″, published in 1913, Jeanmaire suggests that the Krypteia was a rite of passage, possibly pre-dating the classical military organization, and may have been preserved through Sparta‘s legendary religious conservatism.

He also draws comparison with African secret societies‘ (wolf-men and leopard men) initiation rituals.

Anyway – this is the message:

Κάνατε πολλὰ τραγικὰ λάθη καὶ τώρα θὰ ἀρχίσετε να πληρώνετε γιὰ κάθε ἕνα ἀπὸ αὐτά. Δὲν θὰ σᾶς χαριστοῦμε γιὰ κανένα…
Ἡ πρᾶξις μας ἦτο προειδοποιητική!
Ἤ ἐσεῖς… ἤ Ἐμεῖς!!! ~

It’s more or less all Greek to me, but according to the Google translation, is says something like this:

You have made many tragic mistakes and will now begin to pay for each one of them. You will not be happy about “our practice.”

That was our warning!

It’s you … or us!

And here’s the bizarre video (even the background music is scary!):
